Choir "Maghiya" with 8 Awards from an International Singing Contest

As some of you may know, Creative Heritage was built on the strong pillar of a small local choir for traditional Bulgarian folklore songs. The children in choir "Maghiya" became the inspiration of establishing an organisation that strives to preserve, present and promote not only Bulgarian, but world cultural heritage through the power and beauty of performing arts. That's how Creative Heritage was born. Naturally, choir "Maghiya" is a very important part of our history, present and future.

This year, the choir participated in an online singing contest, organised by Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad and supported by the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They sent one choral performance of an originally mixed folklore songs from the Shopski region (West Bulgaria) and 11 solo & duet recordings of the children in the choir. In May we learned that "Maghiya" have won 8 awards in different categories. Soloist Under 10 years old:

Award Ceremony for Bulgarian Singing Contest Lyubka Rondova 2024, Choir Maghiya

Award Ceremony

The Award Ceremony took place on 7th August at the National Palace of Children in Sofia, Bulgaria. Choir "Maghiya" was represented by 4 of the award winners and the founder, Mariella Blago. During the ceremony it was announced that there were over 300 children competing for the awards this year. The jury was comprised by the international violinist star SVET and the opera singer and vocal coach Maria-Magdalena Hristova. To make the experience even more enjoyable, the grand prix winner from Choir "Maghiya", Nia Nedeva, performed live the song she entered with in the contest.

More Memories and Fun Time in Bulgaria

After the ceremony, Nia, together with other children who won first places in their respective categories, took on a journey to a small seaside village in Bulgaria where they spent 10 days on a camp, filled with fun, joy and arts, as the winning prize. The other representatives of our choir took their trophies and certificates home and embarked on much-deserved summer fun with their families.

Choir "Maghiya" Ready for More Music and New Challenges

Choir "Maghiya" returns to the rehearsal room at Trinity Church Sutton on 14th September 2024 with the 2 regular groups - under 10 year olds and over 10 year olds. They have a busy Autumn term, preparing brand new entries for the Sutton Music Festival in November and crafting memorable performances for our Christmas Songs & Stories From Around The World concert. Not to forget, this year choir "Maghiya" celebrates its 5th birthday in October, and if previous records are to be taken into account, they might as well surprise us with a party or an impromptu concert! Entries for new children joining the choir are now open and you can register here. First rehearsal is always free because singing is something you should love and burn for, even if your skills need a bit of polishing. For those who don't speak Bulgarian or are not interested in Bulgarian folklore, we are putting together a Creative Heritage Show Choir for children between the ages of 7 and 18 years old. This would be suitable for children who are more vocally endowed, feel comfortable on stage and also enjoy dancing and drama. Our rehearsal days will be confirmed in September after speaking to all registered children and holding informal auditions. If you want your child to join Creative Heritage's Show Choir, please register your interest here.
